General Information

Mhlume is a town located in the Lubombo region of Swaziland. The name Mhlume is derived from the protected uMhlume Tree.

Mhlume has a population in excess of 20,000 and is well known for its large sugar cane fields in the area. There is a sugar refinery run by the Royal Swaziland Sugar Corporation which is the largest employer of this region.

The RSSC has been growing sugar cane since 1958 in the northern lowveld of Swaziland, producing 430 000 tonnes of sugar annually.
